--we have water this morning. Didn't have it yesterday - turn on faucet, nothing. So we used the spigot in the yard (different pipe, apparently, from the one that feeds the house). Got promises from the hospital maintenance people to come check it out. Eventual explanation: the water source had been "locked" farther upstream from us, shutting us out of the feed. Hot showers are a good thing, and so is water in the sink for dishes.

--Proof of globalization: the only red apples I can buy here are labeled with stickers from Chile. Chile??!!
--When you order something - pastries at a bakery, say, or momos from a restaurant and you want them "to go," here you say "for packing." They usually pack in tinfoil or a bakery box and then wrap that in newspaper. If you buy an article of clothing, they roll it in a piece of newspaper instead of a bag.
